Tribute to
Frida Kahlo
A Vision Train Exhibition

July 10th - September 24th, 2021

The Vision Train is proud to present its 3rd virtual exhibition, 'Tribute to Frida Kahlo', in celebration of her 114th Birthday. Born July 6th 1907, Frida is a Mexican visionary surrealist  who has been an inspiration to countless artists around the world, most known for her many portraits and self-portraits. Her life story was wrought with physical challenge and a tumultuous and passionate relationship with her life partner Diego Rivera. Frida documented her experience in vibrant sketch books, leaving relics and artifacts for the generations to come. Her work and story is more relevant than ever as she was a pioneer in exploring questions of gender, identity, post-colonialism, class and race in Mexican society.

The artists featured in this exhibition are located all over the world finding common ground through honoring a visionary icon such as Frida through their own lens and personal inspiration. With 39 works represented, the majority are paintings including multi-media, tattoo and sculpture.

This collection of artifacts represents a deeper story of a global community in 2021 exploring creativity and life together. As we explore our roles as individuals and artists in the world today, Frida is like a matriarchal saint reminding us to not give up and to never stop making art. We don't know what lies ahead for humanity but if we can offer some inspiration and hope through sharing our experience and stories of exploration, maybe the ripple of our hearts will support more compassion for a world of greater justice and understanding for all beings.

- Amanda Sage -

Many thanks to everyone that submitted their work for this exhibition, Serenity Meg for initiating and curating the show, Alecia Sacred Heart for organizing and leading the opening events, Ania Amador for the marketing support, Marc Evan for all the behind the scenes attention 🙏
